PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) Electronic
Filing System
Organization:
World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Geneva Switzerland
Project Contact: Karl Kalejs, Director, Electronic
Filing Project
Project Description:
Although long recognized as a
standards-setting body, WIPO had only recently begun to address
issues specific to electronic patent application filings. The core
issues were security, access, and interoperability. The organization
had limited experience creating large IT systems. Standards and
processes developed for electronic filing had to be formally
incorporated into the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
WIPO turned to Vcentra experts to create the standards and
architecture for their new efiling system. Vcentra engineers
relocated to Geneva to design the PCT Electronic Filing
infrastructure and develop the international standard for electronic
patent filing. Vcentra experts also designed the PKI and digital
signature/encryption architecture for PCT Electronic Filing.
